John Black (B.Sc., R.P.Bio.) is the principal and senior project biologist of JBL Environmental Services Ltd. (JBL), and has over 30 years’ experience leading and managing fish, wildlife and water quality projects. Mr. Black has operated JBL since 1998, with a hiatus from 2004 to 2013. He worked as a senior aquatic biologist with Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (2004 to 2009) and SNC-Lavalin Inc. (2010 to 2013). Mr. Black has developed baseline studies and compensation programs for environmental impact assessment certificate applications in the mining, hydro and linear infrastructure sectors, under the BCEAA and CEAA review processes. His responsibilities included: design and coordination of fish and wildlife technical studies, assessments of habitat disturbances, and liaison with clients to develop mitigation and habitat offsetting strategies. Mr. Black has supervised water quality sampling programs, and consulted with federal and provincial agencies, First Nations, and local governments.
Andrea Paetow (M.Sc., R.P.Bio.) is a terrestrial biologist with over 22 years’ experience, including 18 years as a registered professional biologist in B.C. She completed her M.Sc. degree in Ecological Restoration at Simon Fraser University and British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2018. Ms. Paetow has led terrestrial baseline studies and environmental impact assessments to CEAA, BCEAA and IFC standards for the mining, oil & gas, hydro, linear infrastructure, and other land development sectors. Ms. Paetow specializes in vegetation bio-inventories, wildlife surveys and wildlife habitat assessments with a particular focus on ungulates, small mammals, migratory birds, amphibians and species of conservation concern. Her responsibilities include: design and coordination of biological studies, effects assessment, project coordination, collaboration with project partners, government and First Nations, permitting, mentoring of junior staff, technical review, and reporting.
